Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
1. Walk around the city for 8 hours..straight.
2. Take pictures of the rustic euro colorful buildings
3. Get lost amongst the narrow streets and tall buildings, NOTE: this is not hard to accomplish
4. Take pictures
5. Try on masks of all different kinds NOTE: Venice is known for their festival in February that consists of wearing masks, and the city is filled with shops with all different kinds
6. Take pictures of yourselves in the masks
7. Find your way to Piazza San Marco
8. Take pictures of the huge square, bell tower and St. Mark’s Basilica
9. Take the elevator up the bell tower, Campanile, to see THE most breathtaking view of your life NOTE: don’t be turned off by the 8 euro price, it is well worth it
10. Take pictures of the view of the city, from all four sides
11. Eat some gelato
12. Take pictures of yourself eating gelato
13. Bargain with the Gondoliers to get the outrageous price of a Gondola ride of 100 Euros for 4 people down to a reasonable, but oh so necessary 60 Euros, What is a trip to Venice without a Gondola ride
14. Take pictures with the Gondolier’s hat, of the Gondola, of you in the Gondola, and of the amazing view you get of you while on the 30 minute Gondola ride
15. Chat up the Gondolier, make sure you’ve gotten a cute one with a good personality, makes the experience all that much better J
16. You have the option of taking the water taxi back to the main entrance of Venice where you began..are you crazy? WALK all the way back, try to retrace the path that got you there. HINT: impossible.
17. Take more pictures
18. Stop for dinner at a fun euro café, NOTE: the food is not the high point of the trip, but after all of the walking, a pizza bigger than your face tastes pretty darn good
19. And last but not least, complete your journey with a solid jumping picture!
Lindsay’s mother and her friend are in town so we decided to take the opportunity of our Sunday off and head to Venice, Italy! I had been once before with Texas A&M in 2007 when we went on our Euro tour, but nobody else had. It is only a 3 hour drive from Maribor, so we woke up early got to the city by noon and began our exploration. It was a gorgeous day and a great trip! As you can see from the list above the main key to this trip was…..TO TAKE PICTURES! We were so picture happy the entire day and Lindsay’s mom thought we were crazy by the end of the day but after getting back and looking at all 115, yes that is a large number for one afternoon, but we had to caputre the moment and let me tell you this was a very special city!! The entire time I was there I was pinching myself, we were surrounded by so much history and culture it was unbelievable, the day was a great success!
